Jarrod Dahl teaches wood turning techniques informed by years of making and researching historic cups and bowls in Europe and studies in Japan. Students will receive tutoring in Western or Japanese electric lathe turning or Pole Lathe turning.

A variety of topics can be covered depending on the needs of the student:

  • gouges and modern turning tools 

  • hook tools

  • basic roughing, hollowing, and fine finish turning

  • dry and green wood

  • tool design and forging tools

  • end grain and side grain turning

  • using woodenware

  • drying greenwood, blank preparation and storage

  • production work

  • wood finishing with milk paint, oils, urushi lacquer, and/or Hassui Ceramic

$400 per day

Materials and Tools provided. If you are forging tools, a material fee will apply.
